Dear Mom,
As I write this letter to you, I find myself thinking about my English Composition I class. I’m learning so much more in class than I have in all of my classes this semester. In the beginning of the semester my class was required to make a website using Weebly. On this site, my class and I upload weekly blog posts and our essays. The site is like our class portfolio, we do all of our work on it and we are graded on it. I enjoy writing my blog posts because on just about every other blog post we are required to write a Reflection, the reflections require me to write my past weeks experiences in my personal life and in class. The blog post also requires me to write at least 300 words, but by the time I’m done writing my thoughts, the post already ends up having more words than I need. I also like writing the blog posts because on some of them we have to do a reading and write on it. For example, we all read “6 Ways to be a Hemingway-Level Productive Badass”. The text explains the steps that a famous American author and journalist, Ernest Hemingway takes when he writes. This blog post helped me with my writing because it made me write out the steps that I take and I took some of Hemingway’s steps to form a better writing routine. For example, I took Hemingway’s 5th step, “He Protected His Time”. That step was very useful to my writing because you know I’m terrible managing my time. Like when my teachers always talked to you about me getting better with my timing while taking tests. So far in class we have only had only one essay due and it is the Creative Nonfiction Essay. The essay was tough because it took a lot of thought to describe all of the senses and setting. I have two rough drafts of my paper because I had to keep adding detail. The biggest problem I ran into was writing my whole day in detail without making the paper too long. I realized that when I started talking about the game, I already had 1,500 words. I fixed the paper by deleting a lot of the detail that was boring and keeping the interesting and exciting scenes. Anyway, I’m learning a lot in English and you would be proud if you read some of my work that I linked in this letter.
